This is the 5th book in the Grant County series. It follows a Chief of Police, one of his officers and a pediatrician, who is also the coroner as the main characters. The setting for the crime was a farm/cult and I didn't find it as gripping as her other books. There were a lot of characters to keep tracked of and the whole "religious cult" thing wasn't interesting. The best part of the book was the end, which was left as cliffhanger, but I can't wait to see what happens next.
This book by Karin Slaughter might be my favorite one so far. I've read quite a few of her books and even a novella or two. Her books are often heavy on violence towards women. This book also possessed that same thread. But I feel that was balanced by everything else. It didn't feel like the often abused 'shock and awe' trick I dislike. Having struggled with the previous couple of books in this series this one seemed to up the game again; although still not back to the highs of the first two books in the series I did enjoy this one.We are back in good old Grant County with Sara and Jeffery stumbling across a body whose last moments on earth were truly horrific.
