I loved these books. I've read them all twice. Dante Gabriel is a great character, cool, smart and dangerous, with a passionate heart. What made her into a necromancer is slowly revealed throughout the books. The unlikely romance at the centre of these novels is beautifully drawn, it starts fast and ends up being a rollercoaster as Dante will never compromise. The side characters are also vivid and entertaining. No action is ever irrelevant, although it may take a while for its purpose to be

When?A 1285 page book - an omnibus of five different novels. When did I find out when the novel took place? In the author's afterward. Page 1278. By the slaughtering of place names, culture names, and religious names, I knew it took place in "the future", but I was guessing 50-100 years. It was 600.Where?Back to the slaughtered place names. As a result of fragmented "that kinda sounds like" names, I didn't really have a sense of where we were in the world for most of the book. Talking about the

It's so raw and heartwrenching, and you literally feel exactly what the protagonist feels. It leaves you with the same empty numbness, Dante feels.
